The BHA administers senior housing in six buildings, all located within walking distance of Coolidge Corner. There are 391 federally-funded units and 32 state-funded units for seniors and disabled persons. Applicants for senior housing must be age 62 or older (or disabled) and have gross income under $51,150 (one person), $58,450 (two persons). Rent is 30% of adjusted gross income. There is a long waiting list, and preference for federally funded units is given to victims of domestic violence or natural disasters, and people who live or work in Brookline. Priorities for state-funded units are Brookline residents, veterans, victims of domestic abuse, homelessness due to natural disaster or public action, no-fault eviction, and medical emergency.
