STRAITS to Support Brookline Seniors Who No Longer Drive

Funded by the Mass. Department of Transportation and administered by the Brookline Senior Center, STRAITS (Senior Transportation Resources, Advice, Information Training and Support) is designed for seniors and others with disabilities who no longer drive or who have reduced their driving. STRAITS is a demonstration program that will serve residents of Brookline and Newton.

BrooklineCAN member Shirley Selhub assisted the Town of Brookline in applying for the funding and contributed significantly to the writing of the successful proposal. Shirley learned about the availability of grant funds while studying senior transportation issues in the Gerontology training at UMASS Boston. She has already convened the project’s professional advisory committee.   STRAITS will provide training and psycho-social support in the optimal use of diverse transportation resources in the Boston Metro area. The goal is to provide a service that will be offered through Councils on Aging throughout Massachusetts.
