(A relative or friend may accept the citation on behalf of an honoree if they are unable to to attend.) The event scheduled for October 15th from 2:00 to 3:30 pm at the Brookline Senior Center will include music and bakery treats. WBUR’s Karen Shiffman and Carey Goldberg are featured speakers at BrooklineCAN’s 9th Annual Meeting on September 19. Shiffman is executive producer of “On-Point”, WBUR’s long-running, live call-in and interview morning show. Goldberg is host and editor of CommonHealth, WBUR’s source for news and conversation about health, medicine and science.
This year’s event, which is free and open to all, will celebrate Watch Us Network, U-CAN-2 –Building a Stronger Brookline Community through Active Networking. It will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Brookline Senior Center, 93 Winchester Street, Brookline.
This year’s community award winners include Kent Street Affordable Senior Housing Committee, Brookline Climate Action Committee and Brookline Transportation Board. Members of BrooklineCAN’s Education, Communications, Membership, and Livable Community Advocacy Committees will be available to discuss their activities with guests.

This fall Brookline Adult & Community Education is offering a number of classes and activities that look very interesting. Many meet during the day and at the Senior Center. Here is a list of a few of the classes with a link to the BA&CE catalog with a complete description.
In cooperation with the John Fitzgerald National Historic Site, the Senior Center will be offering an interactive program focused upon the life and times and presidency of John Fitzgerald Kennedy on Wednesday, September 4 from 1-3:30 pm. Seniors are a valuable resource of those times and can provide information and memories enhanced by firsthand knowledge and feelings of those years.
Participants will engage in activities in which they will relate and discuss their remembrances. They will share their personal stories with other seniors who, like them, remember “being there”. To register, please call 617-730-2770.
At its September meeting, the BrooklineCAN Livable Community Advocacy Committee will be examining the availability of affordable housing for seniors in Brookline. The rising cost of existing rental housing units, the prospects for construction of new affordable units for seniors, and the growing demand for affordable senior housing will be considered. Roger Blood, chair of Brookline’s Housing Advisory Board will lead the discussion. Representatives of the Brookline Department of Planning and Community Development will contribute to the discussion. The meeting will be held on Monday, September 9 at 3:00 PM at the Senior Center. All are welcome.
